Can You Cheat on Medifast and Still Lose Weight?

I was asked how much cheating is allowed on Medifast or if you will still lose weight if you cheat. Well, I guess that depends on what you mean by cheating. Because technically, I’ve been cheating on my entire diet. However, I think there is a safe, effective way to do it, which I will discuss in the following paragraph.

Understand How Medifast Really Works: The reason this diet is so good is threefold. First, you only eat fewer calories than you need, because the food is low in calories and carbohydrates. Second, you eat six small meals throughout the day that help boost your metabolism and prevent hunger pangs. Finally, because you eat less carbohydrates and more protein, your body enters a metabolic state called ketosis which encourages your body to burn its own fat.

Ketosis is the real promise of this diet and where you end up. You can test this by using ketone strips – which will tell you exactly if you have reached this state. (You can get these at most drugstores or supermarkets.)

Is Cheating On The Medifast Diet Knocking You Out Of Ketosis?: You should not lose weight quickly and drastically if you are in ketosis. However, the good news is that it only takes a few days to recover. So, there is no need to panic if you see from the ketone strips that you are out. And, you’ll get out of this state more if you cheat by eating carbs. You’ll be better off if you cheat with protein. So, technically, it’s better to steal a nice burger than trying to steal a cookie or a piece of cake.

Tricks I think helped me lose weight with Medifast: OK, so now I’ll admit that I don’t necessarily follow the product. But, I’m smart about it. I add the product to my prepackaged meals several times a day. What I mean by this is that I add fat and sugar free syrups to shakes, puddings, and cappuccinos. I also sometimes add fat free whipped cream. I also add fat free cheese, sour cream, and hummus to chili, eggs, and soups/stews. I also sometimes add soda to the shakes for soft drinks. In short, I take a lot of freedom with the food, but I try to use fat or sugar free ingredients when I do this. This gives me variety and makes me happy to eat food.

The Freedom I Take With Lean And Green Eating: Every day, you will eat five meals in advance of these foods and will prepare one meal for yourself. (Some people will skip this meal, but you shouldn’t because I believe that doing this will slow down your metabolism. I have tried with this and it almost always makes my results are slow.) You should eat less and less protein. Glycemic vegetables and for the most part, I stick with this. But, if my family is eating chicken then sometimes I will not make chicken for myself. Or, if my family has sweet green peas, I will deny myself because these are high on the glycemic index. And, sometimes, I deny myself a burger if I remove the bread.

I think that if I eat a “lean and mostly green” diet, I’m doing really well. And despite the small defeat, I still eat FAR less calories and carbs than usual. And, if my weight loss is any indication, I’m doing just fine.
