A 4th of July Party Idea That Lights Up the Night!

Here are 4th of July Party Ideas that are jam packed with fun. It’s our family’s favorite summer holiday and always a reason for celebration. Like an open house, we all invite everyone we see. Everyone brings a bowl.. we serve beer, soft drinks and burgers! I’ve said many times, at our house we don’t focus on food but on fun! There is always a lot of food at our party.. but that is not the main point or what we all remember years later. So follow along and try again our 4th of July Party Ideas!

Step 1 Wine? Not with our group. It is the word of mouth and phone number of the event. We want to save our money for a happy lighting party! Like everyone stops after the show and the city eats. There are all ages here from 8 months to 80! A word of caution. RAINY DAYS, SUNNY DAYS, RAIN DAYS.. Remember to tell your friends when you will reschedule if it pours!!

Step 2 Decorations: We adorned our porch with bunting, had our flags proudly displayed and picked up red, white and blue supplies. Don’t spend extra money on those with 4th of July designs! They are more expensive and the white color does well to get everyone’s spirits.

Step 3 Food: It couldn’t be easier. Everyone brings something like an old fashioned picnic. We make burgers and drinks. Just beer, wine and soda plus tons of water.

Step 4 Party Games: Always a must! This April idea includes a game that our son and his friends set up… a house made Frisbee throw.. simple but fun. They set 16 oz. The water bottles are on top of the ski poles and throw the frisbee in an attempt to knock them out! There are lines of all age groups trying this feat. It’s not as easy as it looks but fun for everyone. They play in groups and then have a tournament. It’s one player elimination, one try and you meet a new opponent or leave! We have borrowed some toys from our neighbors and have a teeter totter, slide and machine for the pool for the youngsters. One of my friends also did some face painting and made some of the children’s faces. It’s great! For small children, you may want to add a slide n slide or wading pool. This will be so much fun for them! Just make sure you have a towel to dry them off.

Step 5 There are no fireworks this year but with the idea of July 4, we light up the community with “lit Leis”. These were cheap but very fun. Search for “light up leis” and you’ll find them in many places. Always compare prices, there are big differences between places! Everyone was wearing them.. Even our beloved Wheaton Terrier, Bailey! At 9 o’clock in the evening our garden looks like alien territory from afar.

Step 6 More Games How about this 4th of July party idea? We ran a Bocce Ball tournament after dark. We use one of the set leis as a polena so the players can see the goal. Bocce is a great family game. It’s lawn bowling but we play with a spin. You throw the polena (small ball) and where it lands.. you play for it. Over the years, the waste has landed on purpose in the forest, under trees and even across the road. Plus from 5 to six, everyone can play. It is a social game between adults and children. Our kids have been playing with the men ever since and it’s always been a part of the backyard barbeque we have. You can find Bocce at any price level. It is best not to go with the cheapest one.. the product is very light. Target and Walmart and Sports Authority all carry the product. The premier system, which we are proud to have, comes from Brookstone. It’s over $100 but has lasted over 15 years!

Step 7 The party is over.. everyone is still here and it’s after 11.. the kids are running wild, dad and the kids are playing bocce, mom is tired. I kicked them all but it broke! “Happy 4th of July to everyone and to the whole night!”
