The Fender Telecaster Guitar – 10 Interesting Facts

The Fender Telecaster guitar has been well-deserved for many years because of its beautiful and unique sound, which is great in country and blues music. It has of course been used many times in other types of music as well.

The guitar has unsurprisingly received the praise of many famous guitar players over the years including Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, Andy Summers and Bruce Springsteen.

Listed below are 10 facts about this legendary electric guitar:

1. Leo Fender invented the Telecaster in 1948 in sunny California. This is a time when many business leaders are experimenting and creating designs. As a result, the Fender Telecaster has to be very fast on the mark.

2. The guitar came on the scene as a Broadcaster model in 1949 and is still manufactured today in one form or another. There have of course been many impersonators but Fender’s original is the main model.

3. In 1950 the first pickup model hit production and was called Esquire.

4. As far as the wood used for construction goes, the neck and fingerboard are made from one piece of Maple. This is duly bolted to a body made of Ash or Alder, which is a cheaper process than Gibson’s more involved ‘light neck’ style.

5. A semi-acoustic style of guitar appeared in about 1968 and was called the Thinline. The 1969 model included a Mahogany body and the 1972 body was Swamp Ash.

6. Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin fame used a 1958 Telecaster gifted by Jeff Beck for the now world famous guitar solo on the magnificent Stairway to Heaven, from Led Zeppelin’s fourth album . Many people still think that this guitar solo is played on a Gibson Les Paul or SG double neck but it is not.

7. Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones is now famous for using his custom guitar in a very unusual way during a show. Richards used his guitar to play a very powerful and potentially terrifying fan that ran the scene.

8. The Telecaster bridge is placed on top of a steel plate to improve the magnetic field which further helps to give this product its unique sound.

9. Fender decided to revolutionize electronics in 1952 to incorporate tone control into the guitar circuit.

10. In 1950 in the time of the Broadcaster model and the emergence of Telecaster, some guitars made in this period have no name and therefore are often called Nocasters.

If you haven’t tried out one of these fantastic guitars, head down to your nearest guitar shop to give it a test run. I am sure you will love it.
