Celebrity Dolls Have Been Popular for Many Decades
Celebrity dolls and action figures have been very popular for many decades. It would seem that people often collect figures of high profiled celebrities. Collectors may have hopes of making a profit off a particular star’s figured item which they have purchased. Others collect these treasures because they are truly a great fan of a person in the spotlight.
Lucille Desiree Ball (known as Lucille Ball) was born on Aug.6, 1911. She was a very attractive and dynamic red-haired comic and actress. She had a successful career in radio, on stage, in movies and on television. One of her most known and colorful TV characters she played was Lucy Ricardo from the well-loved television show called ‘I Love Lucy.’ She starred along with her husband Desi Arnaz. There are a collection of figures bearing Lucille Balls’s likeness. One ‘I Love Lucy’ doll is from the episode ‘Be A Pal’. This figure has Lucy wearing a cheerfully colored Spanish style ruffled dress wearing a turban with fruit and feathers and lovely golden jewelry. Another ‘I love Lucy’ figure is of Lucy endorsing Vitamins, wearing a blue and white checkered dress with a white-collar and long sleeves. She is also wearing a checkered hat, pearl necklace and black shoes. Lucy was the first woman to own and head her own film studio named Desilu. In 1962, Lucy had a new show called ‘The Lucy Show’ in which she played Lucy Carmichael. One of the show’s most comical segments was called ‘Candy Factory’ where Lucy and her friend Ethel (played by Vivian Vance), hilariously bungled things up together. There are different dolls sold over the internet where Lucy and Ethel are dressed in a pink dress uniforms and Chef’s hats designed from the ‘Candy Factory’ segment of ‘The Lucy Show.’ ‘Here’s Lucy’ was another hit TV show she made in 1968. Lucy was said to be the greatest TV star of all time by TV Guide Magazine. Lucille Ball died on April 26, 1989, but still continues to be loved and admired by many.
Elvis Aaron Presley, born in Tupelo, Mississippi in the U.S. on Jan. 8, 1937 was a very charismatic and talented singer, entertainer and actor. He was named the ‘King of Rock and Roll’ by the media. Some of his many hit songs included ‘Heart Break Hotel’, ‘Jail House Rock’ and ‘Blue Suede Shoes.’ He served in the army in the late 1950’s. When Elvis returned to the entertainment world in the 1960″s, he performed in many movies and on television. At the age of 36 Elvis Presley was given the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. His legend continues in his recorded music, movies and in several forms of licensed figures resembling Elvis. Some figures are of Elvis in the movie ‘Jail House Rock.’ There is one figure which resembles Elvis from his ‘Come Back Show’ in 1968 wearing the leather jacket, jeans and is holding a guitar. Another figure is of Elvis from his 1973 satellite concert via Hawaii called ‘Aloha from Hawaii.’ He is wearing a replica of his white Eagle jumpsuit with golden stars, jewels, eagle motifs on the chest, sleeves and bell bottomed pant legs. His colorful jumpsuit also has an eagle motif with its wings spread out in the back. The same Elvis figure is also wearing a red garland around his neck and a scarf and cape. Elvis Presley died on Aug.16th, 1977 but his fame lives on. He has been inducted into multiples of Music Halls of Fame.
Marilyn Monroe, born as Norma Jean Mortenson (later changed to Baker), was born in 1926. The very glamorous blonde actress starred in several movies including ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ in 1953. There is a Marilyn Monroe figurine available over the internet which the Blonde Bombshell with the ruby-red lips is wearing a provocative but tasteful looking pink colored strap-less gown with a pink bustle in the back. Her accessories include long shoulder length gloves accented by a lovely diamond necklace as in the movie. Another lovely Marilyn Monroe doll is a replica of what she wore to a Hollywood Debut. The glamorous looking doll is wearing a tight-fitting white gown covered with sequins in floral designs. Her gown is complimented by lovely elbow length gloves, a golden bracelet with matching earrings. Marilyn Monroe died in 1962 but her memory lives on in her movies, several souvenirs and various lovely dolls of Marilyn Monroe’s likeness. Marilyn was and still is admired by many people.
John Christopher Depp II (known as Johnny Depp) was born on June 9th 1963 in Owensboro, Kentucky, U.S. He is an extremely talented actor who portrays many different characters with little effort. He was first seen on a television show in the 1980’s called ’21 Jump Street’ which along with his good looks quickly turned him into a teen idol. Depp starred in Edward Scissor Hands in 1990 and he has continued to be in several box office successes since then. There are figures offered over the internet which look like Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands. He also dresses in colorful apparel as the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland. There is also an Ichabod Crane figure available from the Movie Sleepy Hollow. He is wearing a long black coat with matching dark suit. Ichabod is also wearing a white coloured shirt, black boots to the knees and is holding a long black gun. A Mad Hatter doll resembling Johnny Depp’s likeness in a flamboyant costume and very large gray hat with bright fuchsia colored scarf. The suit is dark with bright colors at the tail of the suit. The Mad Hatter is readily available over the internet. There are also different Jack Sparrow action figures bearing Johnny Depp’s likeness from ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ (2003 – present) a series which continues. Jack Sparrow is one of his most-unique characters. Many other souvenirs and action figures may be purchased relating to the different series of the movie ‘Pirates of the Caribbean. One of the Jack Sparrow action figures available is changeable. Captain Jack Sparrow has a black pirate’s hat, a purple scarf around his head and a blue opened buttoned down vest. He also wears a dark medieval suit (knickers), long coat, creamed colored shirt with puffy sleeves and brown leather boots to the knees. Jack is wearing rings, a brown leather belt holding two guns, a saber, a compass and a wine goblet. This action figure really resembles Johnny Depp’s character, Jack Sparrow. Johnny Depp is what one might call a modern-day Renaissance Man. He is a multi-talented individual who is not only an extremely successful actor, but also a director, producer, guitar player in a band, wine maker and restaurant owner. The Guinness World of Records has named Johnny Depp as the world’s highest paid actor up to date. His many talents continue to flourish.
Each of these famous entertainers which I have mentioned continue to be house hold names even though some of them are in memory. There are many celebrity dolls and action figures readily available for collectors and there still will be for many years to come.
