Bruce Lee Workout – Wing Chun Kung Fu Secrets

The original martial art that Lee used to create the Bruce Lee workout was Wing Chun kung fu. Strangely enough Wing Chun was actually founded by a women — her name was Yim Wing Chun.

As the story goes, more than 400 years ago she learned this basic self-defense form from a Buddhist nun.

The differences between Wing Chun and many of the other kung fu forms is the difference between what some refer to as the — hard and soft style.

Yim Wing Chun, felt that in the other kung fu styles too much emphasis was placed on the — hard horse. She felt this was not a wise course of action in which a woman should train . She developed the Chi Sao practice, this is a unique part of the Wing Chun style, one in which you flow with the opponent instead of trying to dominate them.

Unlike most other kung fu styles where you attempt to dominate your opponent through strength and technique, Wing Chun is more suited for a woman or for a smaller individual since it relies on a more aggressive style with compact short attacks and defense.

Yip Man, Bruce Lee’s original Wing Chun instructor was responsible for bringing the style from China to Hong Kong where Bruce lived.

Yip Man was considered to be the foremost authority on Wing Chun at that time.

So it seems that the student, Bruce Lee — followed in the master’s footsteps and brought Wing Chun to the United States.

During the Bruce Lee workout and training that went on in San Francisco, Lee noticed some aspects of Wing Chun and for that matter kung fu in general that were not practical in a real life fighting situation.

There have been many misconceptions and rumors as to why Bruce Lee decided to learn kung fu. The fact of the matter is that Bruce was no different than any young boy.

At the age of 13, after being severely beaten up by street gang — Lee began to train in Wing Chun kung fu, from master Yip Man.

In the beginning Bruce Lee felt that in Jeet Kune Do, Wing Chun was the best form to use in the close range. Later on he changed that because he felt that Western boxing was much more effective at handling hand strikes than any Chinese kung fu style. That’s why there is so much of an emphasis on boxing in the Bruce Lee workout.
