New Indian English Poetry – An Alternative Voice – Book Review

Book review:

New Indian English Poetry: A Changing Voice: RKSingh edited by IK Sharma. Published by Enclave Books, Jaipur. 2004. pp. 370, Price Rs.850/-, ISBN 81-8152-085-8.

New Indian English Poetry: A Changing Voice is an important publication in the light of the fact that the larger Indian English language space has been occupied by a few successful academic and bureaucratic writers, including the Diaspora or expatriate writers, and most of India-based. writers and poets, despite their merits, have lived well beyond the pale. Both the most important and visible media and academic values and critics are less than skeptical about discovering or analyzing ‘new’ poets who feel bad because none of the famous people spoke about them at national or international conferences.

Aware of the fact that “subaltern voices that have exploded on the surface of poetry cannot be shooed away” (preface), poet-teacher-critic IK Sharma chose to present a book about one of the new poets, RK Singh, who has already published ten poems and has worked as a critic, reviewer and ELT practitioner for more than 25 years.

In fact, IK Sharma seeks to combat all critics who see nothing but ‘crisis’ in the world of poetry by writing 22 critical essays, 14 essay reviews / language and for interviews published in India and abroad. Over 25 scholars, observers, middle-aged, and young, examine from different angles the mystique of Singh’s poetry and prove “creative efflorescence ” which scores of new, marginalized, poets epitomize.

In his Introductory study, IK Sharma takes a long view of Indian poetry as a literary genre, criticizes the doctrine of racism and segregation, and suggests an alternative approach. and the suggestion of a new generation of poets. It is the interest that requires “courage, collaboration, cooperation and importance” and not the ‘snob net’ that has led to an interest in dissatisfaction, action cruel and confused (pp.203), he warned.

Sharma examines RK Singh as an experiment and observes that the poet brings “freshness and innovation in his communication with his ideas and thoughts…with wisdom and insight” ( p. 8). According to critics: some important features of RK Singh’s poetry – use of words to special effect, no punctuation, no formality, use of beautiful metaphors , and describes the real pain of Indian society – has already attracted readers, but he is “essentially a poet of dark thoughts” (p.10) and “the self-aware artist” who knows “the value of concealment in art” (p11).

No doubt, as a poet, RK Singh is the best for his importance, variety and quality. It is not esoteric, negative or westernized, but it appeals to the country and the world, with its vision and impulses, the depth of thought, personal feelings, and the richness of the words. He explores and re-invigorates patterns and trends with a keen sense of creativity.

Those who are already familiar with his work, as written in this book, too, testify, recognize RK Singh’s ability as a poet and follow his high work, even that he is not a ‘metro’ poet and/or he has not yet been. see as a poet in the middle. IK Sharma recognizes him as a poet of potential and future promise and compiles some excerpts, reviews of essays, comments, and published interviews. in many journals since the 1980s not only to encourage scholars and researchers’ further research on RK Singh as an Indian English poet, but also “to hold the The ghost of ‘chaos’ has become an alibi all the time for failure.”

All participants – practicing academic poets and professionals – view RK Singh as a poet with a sense of discovery, openness to innovation, and appreciation of the recent Indian poetry. They consider his work with approval, recognition and equality. With the faith of a poet, they discuss differences and communicate poetry about the human dimension; their criticism inspired Indian English creativity.

RS Tiwary’s three essays analyze RK Singh’s poetry – thought, language, style, and erotic content – a Sanskrit poem and look at the poet’s relation to the wider world communicate in writing. Mitali De Sarkar’s two essays complement Tiwary’s approach, although it focuses more on the poet’s consciousness. Two essays by GD Barche take a closer look, presenting a stylistic analysis and commentary on Singh’s use of gender imagery. While the essays by Satish Kumar, RA Singh and Ravi Nandan Sinha sought to give a broad overview of the poet’s content published till then, Krishna Srinivas’s ‘Foreword’ to My Silence, RK Singh’s maiden essay , has historical value.

Different from them, Michael Paul Hogan’s article seeks or influences the poet’s real life and stay in Dhanbad while Chhote Lal Khatri’s article is an attempt to make RK Singh a writer. Best English from Bihar/Jharkhand. PCK Perm’s article seeks to find the main themes of Nature, Beauty and Woman in RK Singh’s creative language vis-à-vis the poet concerned with the man’s life and the identity in many languages, cultures and societies today.

IK Sharma’s essay deals with the poet’s Music must Sound as a “carefully crafted” epic. Tejinder Kaur’s essay about “seven sounds like seven musics” in writing.

While recommended essays by DS Maini, Stephen Gill, and IH Rizvi deal with many aspects of My Depression and Other Selected Poems, essays by Patricia Prime, DC Chambial, and Asha Viswas Check out The Green World. The essay by SL Peeran and Abdul Rashid Bijapure takes into account all the volumes published so far and concentrates on the poet’s evolution in terms of his thematic preferences and pursuits more real.

RK Singh is the best in his poems and haiku and tanka are the shortest of poems. Articles and commentaries on his haiku and tanka by Patrticia Prime, Urmila Kaul, DC Chambial, IH Rizvi, Ann Davis, Ruth Wildes Schuler, Ben Torbieu-Newland and Lyle Glazier point to a change in RK Singh’s approach. growth of writing. His poems haiku and tanka are important in this he presents himself to the universal sameness of human feelings and knowledge in a global form. Reviews of RK Singh’s haiku and tanka poems point to critics’ strengths and weaknesses in harmony and harmony.

Patricia Prime also responded well to Joseph John’s comments about the work of many of RK Singh’s poems in World Literature Today in addition to the exhibition, along with Tejinder Kaur, a comparison of RK Singh and US Bahri’s poems.

The second part of the volume includes six interviews RK Singh gave to Patricia Prime, Jaswinder Singh, Kanwar Dinesh Singh, Sonja Van Kerkhoff, Atma Ram, and a group of students. This shows the poet’s background, biographical details, his thoughts, feelings, and personality. It is united with Uncle River’s point of view, pointing to the “stress in the connection between cultures” in RK Singh’s poetry.

So, many of the main points, reviews of the essays and comments, although not as much as one would expect, prove that RK Singh is an inclusive poet, worthy received extensive attention and education at home and abroad. It was IK Sharma’s big heart that he chose to make a book of a poet. The book should encourage new research and deeper research on recent Indian poetry in general and RK Singh’s poetry in particular. M/s Book Enclave deserves credit for publishing New Indian English Poetry: A Changing Voice: RK Singh which is promoting the cause of Indian English poetry in the 21st century.
